A free medical camp in The Gambia's North Bank Region

More than 500 people, most of them women and children, came to a one-day camp run by our Humanity First Gambia team in Jokadu District.

Our Humanity First Gambia team recently ran a free medical camp in a village in Jokadu District, in The Gambia’s North Bank Region. More than 500 people came during the eight hours the team spent there, most of them women and children.

The team was three doctors, two nurses, two dispensary nurses and five volunteers from the village development committee. They gave free consultations, basic health assessments and health education.

Patients with serious or specialised conditions were examined by our doctors and referred to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul for further assessment and treatment. For many of the people who came, the camp meant seeing a doctor without travelling a long way to do it.

The camp is part of our wider work in The Gambia.
