Two powerful earthquakes have struck northern Venezuela, levelling homes and killing more than 4,400 people.

On 24 June 2026 a magnitude 7.2 quake struck near San Felipe in northern Venezuela, followed seconds later by a magnitude 7.5 mainshock near Yumare, around 290 km west of the capital Caracas. The shallow, back-to-back tremors brought down homes, schools and apartment blocks across Yaracuy and neighbouring states.
More than 4,400 people have been killed and over 16,700 injured, with more than 17,000 people left homeless and rescuers still searching collapsed buildings for survivors. The figures are provisional and continue to rise.

In coordination with Humanity First USA, our team deployed to La Guaira, the worst affected area, for a rapid needs assessment. Working alongside the UN, OCHA and the Directorate of Civil Protection, they identified the most urgent gaps and delivered aid directly to displaced families.
Medical supplies reached camps across the area, bedding went to a camp of more than 2,000 people, and hundreds of sanitation packs were distributed to families who had lost everything.
