Restoring sight to thousands, bringing clean water back to remote villages, and backing communities with training, healthcare and food security.

Sight, Water & Community

From eye camps that restore sight to thousands, to hand pumps bringing clean water back to whole villages, vocational training, medical camps, food security and year-round community care, our work in Uganda reaches some of the country's most remote communities.

Restoring sight, year after year

every year

In partnership with a local hospital, our eye-care programme is one of the largest things we do in Uganda. Each year it screens more than 2,000 patients and performs over 300 sight-restoring surgeries.

For someone who has slowly lost their sight, a single operation can be the difference between dependence and getting their life back.

Hand pumps, built and brought back to life

A refurbished Humanity First hand pump in Uganda

Each year we install around 15 to 20 new hand pumps and bring 35 to 40 broken, unused pumps back into service. Whole communities get clean, reliable water again, ending the long daily walk to collect it.

Medical camps and clinical training

A Humanity First medical camp in Uganda

Local doctors, supported by visiting UK clinicians, run regular medical camps and training programmes. Care reaches communities that rarely see a doctor, and frontline health workers build skills that stay in the country.

Education & Skills

A school and a vocational centre

A new school block built by Humanity First in Kyotera, Uganda

A vocational training centre equips hundreds of young people each year with practical, employable skills. Alongside it, a secondary school with its own vocational stream gives students both an academic foundation and a hands-on route into a trade.

Food Security

Seeds, mills and farm training

Farming and food security support in Uganda

We provide farmers with seeds and fertiliser, run small-scale milling machines across villages, and add shredders and shelling machines every year. An animal farm and farmer training help whole communities feed themselves and build a small income.

Community Care

Standing with the most vulnerable

Distributing aid and essential items to families in Uganda

Clothing, food supplies, essential household items and dedicated aid for people with disabilities reach the families and individuals who need support the most, all year round.

Qurbani

Qurbani meat distribution

Qurbani meat distribution in Uganda

Each year Qurbani meat reaches around 9,000 people across more than 30 locations nationwide, bringing nutritious food to families during a time of celebration.
