Gift of Sight runs three things in parallel. Eye care missions travel to remote areas with screenings and prescription glasses. Free cataract surgeries restore eyesight for those who might otherwise go blind. And our partner ophthalmology clinics keep stable eye care running once we leave.
A single 15-minute operation can return a person to work, return a child to school, and lift a whole household out of poverty. For a few tens of pounds we can sponsor one such surgery, with most procedures funded entirely through donor contributions.
Our eye care work is delivered alongside our wider Global Health programme, sometimes in partner hospitals, sometimes in mobile camps that travel to villages we already serve.
Kenya and Uganda anchor the programme through partnerships with established eye hospitals. The other three countries run focused annual missions.
