Todays Updates

  • UK Infections are now doubling every 3-4 days
  • New alliance has been created bringing together businesses, research institutes and universities to increase testing for health workers
  • Testing for NHS workers will be “dramatically scaled up” next week 
  • Government to convert Birmingham NEC and Manchester GMEX exhibition centres into field hospitals, similar to the new Nightingale Hospital at Excel in London, with more to follow
  • 18,000 medical practitioners have returned to the NHS including Nurses and Doctors
  • 33,000 extra beds are being made available in NHS hospitals to treat coronavirus patients 
  • New London hospital to have 500 Intensive Care beds 
  • 700,000 volunteers have registered so far, the government has increased it’s target from 250,000 to 750,000 people

Previous Measures remain in place:

  • People should not to meet with friends or family members they do not live with
  • Shopping is only permitted for essentials like food and medicine
  • Police have powers to enforce the rules, which include disbursements of gatherings and issuance of fines
  • All shops selling non-essential goods to be closed 
  • Libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and places of worship remain closed
  • All gatherings of more than two people in public excluding those you live with are banned
  • All social events are banned, including weddings and baptisms, but Funerals are excluded 
  • Parks remain open for exercise, however gatherings will be dispersed
  • These restrictions will be constantly reviewed 
  • UK Government announce extension of support to Self-Employed via a grant
  • Self- Employed able to claim 80% of average monthly earnings over past 3 years, capped at £2500 per month, open to those who are already self-employed with trading profits up to £50,000 a year and have a self-assessment tax return for 2019. Available “no later than June”
