Humanity First UK launches its National Coronavirus Support Line

London, 23 March 2020: In response to the United Kingdom Government calling out to the charity and voluntary sector Humanity First (UK) have announced the launch of a national support line to help and signpost people to services relating to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The support line will be open 8am-8pm 7 days a week, by calling 0333 880 6619 with an out of hours voicemail service.

The service will be run by trained volunteers and disaster response managers with over 25 years’ experience working in some of the world’s major disasters. This support line is not a replacement for NHS 111 or a medical advice line nor is it a replacement for official government guidance but complements the national effort by signposting to various community services provided across the UK by its partners.

Our trained volunteers are available to provide information, emotional support and reassurance during this difficult time. Where necessary we’ll be able to work with our partners and government agencies with the possibility of further support in terms of delivery of medication, groceries and emotional support as needed.

Dr Aziz Ahmad Hafiz, Chairman of Humanity First (UK) said, “In this time of national crisis our trained volunteers have come together to utilise their skills from working around the world in major disasters to serve the nation at this time of need. Whether its signposting to the latest government guidance, delivering food items to the shielded or simply to have a chat we are here to help.”

He went onto say:

“In these unprecedented times as the Prime Minister has called on all sections of society to come together in this national effort we in our way are here to play our part. The days, weeks and months ahead will not be easy, but the resolve and community spirit of our great nation shall bring us all together; and together we shall beat this virus.”

“The support services are free of charge and available to all people especially the elderly and the shielded population.”

“Anyone who may need advice or practical support can call us on 0333 880 6619. We are working with community partners to reach out to those in need.”
“The needs are huge and I would urge organisations working in the sector to let us know of their work so we can refer people to them on partners@uk.humanityfirst.org”
